Pentti Karkkainen is a founding and General Partner of KERN, a mid level private equity firm based out of Calgary. Before jointly establishing the firm, Pentti held the position of head of RBC Dominion Securities Oil and Gas Research. He has 25 years of energy sector research and investment banking experience. Pentti played key advisory roles on a number of the most significant Canadian upstream sector merger and acquisition transactions in recent years. Pentti’s education includes a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Geology from Carleton University in Ottawa and an MBA from Queen’s University in Kingston. Pentti represents KEP on the Boards of Altex Energy, Connaught Oil & Gas, Dolomite Energy. Pentti is also on the Board of NuVista Energy, a Canadian public E&P company.
